What is Prism Correction?

People who suffer from conditions like diplopia or double vision (this is when someone sees two separate pictures of one object) have to use prismatic glasses. The purpose of these glasses is to correct the vision. Basically, prism correction is used in these eyeglasses. The prism aids in aligning the two images so that only one is image can be visualized.

Working of Prism Correction

For clear vision, when light enters each eye, it passes through the cornea to fall on the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lines the back of the eye. With normal binocular visualization, the eyes work together, and the brain sees a single picture. This happens because light falls on the same part of the retina of both the eyes. But, in double vision, two images are seen as the light falls in different parts of the retina of each eye. The prismatic glasses made by the professional prismatic glass manufacturer bends light before it travels through the eye. The light is redirected and falls correctly on the retina in each eye. The brain then performs its usual work of fusing the two retina pictures together to produce one clear picture.

Who might benefit from prism correction?

A prismatic glass can be used for double vision from eye misalignment when caused by eye muscle issues, such as myasthenia gravis, Graves’ disease, or strabismus (crossed eyes or walleyes). They are also used for Neurological (brain-related) issues, such as stroke, head injuries, migraine, or tumor or nerve-related problems, like multiple sclerosis or diabetes mellitus
